Every Thursday people convene at the local court, Songgo. The people come to the songgo with various purposes; some people come as witness, to attend and hear mediation and arbitration in the court or to present its cases to the court to seek solution. The mediators are the heiyu or hayicha forms the council of elders in the songgo. According to the council of elders they have been free services to the people. In the Songgo cases such as dispute over farm land, family disputes, dispute between individuals over payment of loans which was given in the absence of a witness and a number of such cases have been presented to the court and decided by the council of elders. As elders maintain the local court are very effective especially in cases which have been done secretly or done in the absence of a witness. Even today, in the presences of modern institutions like the police, court, and kebele, district administrators, the Songgos have been continued playing its traditional roles of mediation.The songgo is open for all to attend cases, dialogues, mediations, witness and decisions passed by the heiyu/hayicha.
